Knight Fencing students shine on new fencing apprenticeship scheme

Our two fencing apprentices are now level 2-qualified fencing installers!

It’s a big moment for them and us. Well done lads!

And it’s a big moment for the new fencing apprenticeship scheme and our industry.

Big news about the fencing apprenticeship scheme

It’s really important for the fencing industry to have a decent apprenticeship scheme: one that makes sure that the industry has properly trained professionals joining every year. It’s a great industry and apprentices are key to keeping it this way.

This is why we’re delighted to see how the apprenticeship scheme has changed over the last five years or so. And not just because we’re seeing the benefit! The whole thing has been improved enormously.

Who’s behind the new apprenticeship scheme for fencing?

We’re a big supporter of AJS Training and what they have done to improve the fencing industry apprenticeship scheme (along with the AFI and others, including us). AJS Training has really worked hard to overhaul the scheme and raise standards, pushing the government to put the right learning structure in place.

And after a lot of elbow grease, patience and paperwork, we’re seeing the results of this effort. Thanks to AJS Training, which now operates the scheme in our area, we have a learning structure that provides apprentices with the skills and knowledge they need and employers with the skilled professionals they need.

What we’re doing to attract and train future fencers

Our MD Danny is a big believer in the new apprenticeship scheme and learning  the fencing trade in this way. He’s been out and about at careers fairs and schools in West Sussex educating the next generation about the fencing industry and the potential it holds for them.

He’s been talking about the high-profile work, the innovation, the common misconceptions (not just installing fences in back gardens!) and our fencing apprenticeship opportunities. And he’s reported back lots of interest and engagement from school leavers and students.

So, hats off to our two new level 2-qualified fencing installers, who recently picked up their diplomas. And hats off to AJS Training and the AFI. The future of the fencing industry is looking brighter!
